Routine Changes for Preventing Yeast Infections

To prevent yeast infections, you must take good care of yourself. This includes taking enough rest, avoiding stress and eating a healthy diet. It is crucial to keep the blood sugar levels under control if you have diabetes. Uncontrolled blood sugar levels can increase the risk of yeast infection and make it more difficult to treat them. Ask your doctor if you should take probiotics with antibiotics or birth control pills. This will protect the “good” bacteria from being destroyed and prevent yeast from overtaking the body. Good hygiene can also help to prevent an environment conducive to the growth of yeast.

Here are some steps you can take to prevent yeast infection.

  • Good hygiene is important
  • Wear the right clothes
  • Avoid using scented bath products and sprays
  • Don’t douche
  • Avoid certain medications whenever possible
  • Exercise, eat well, and get enough sleep
  • Vaginal hygiene is important

This preventive measure is more important if you have three or more yeast infection every year. This condition is known as chronic or recurrent infections. Here are some daily habits which can prevent yeast infections.

Changes in clothing for prevention of Yeast infection:

Wear loose-fitting pants and underwear. Allow for some airflow.

Use absorbent cotton or Silk underwear in place of nylon or other synthetic fabrics.

Underwear made of cotton and silk is good for absorbing moisture to keep the skin dry.

Yeast can grow on nylon and other synthetic materials. Underwear made from synthetic materials can also cause allergic reactions or hypersensitivity, which may alter the vaginal environment and lead to yeast infection.

Heat and moisture can build up under tights, leggings and pantyhose.

It is best to avoid wearing tight-fitting pajamas. Even better, a loose-fitting nightgown with a flowing pattern is preferable. By sleeping without underwear, you can keep your genital region dry and prevent yeast growth.

Wear cotton pants underneath if wearing pantyhose will be necessary. Choose a pantyhose that has a cotton crotch.

It is crucial to change out of your workout clothes immediately after working out. It is important to change out of sweaty gym clothing and take a shower immediately after exercising. It is therefore important to switch into dry clothes immediately.

After swimming, change out of your wet swimsuit.

Avoid washing your genital region with soap. Rinse thoroughly with only water and then dry with a soft, lint-free towel. You can use mild soap if you wish.

Take extra care during menstruation. Keep your genital region clean. If you’re prone to yeast infection, use pads instead of tampons. Change tampons frequently if you use them.

Bathe wisely. Avoid hot tubs. Spend less time in the hot tub. Rinse thoroughly after using bath salts or other products.

Generally, healthy habits such as getting enough sleep, eating healthy food, and maintaining good feminine hygiene can reduce the risk of developing a yeast infections. Talk to your doctor if you have frequent vaginal infection.

Use Safe Sex Practices:

Use condoms even if you’re not in a relationship.

You should not have sexual relations if you are suffering from a yeast infection. Itching, dryness and soreness can be made worse by vaginal sex.

It’s possible that you can get a yeast infected from your partner, even though it isn’t a sexually transmitted disease. It’s not usually passed through sex, but if a woman has recurrent yeast infections, doctors may ask her partner to be treated.

Men who are not circumcised have a higher risk of catching yeast because their foreskin is a damp, dark area. You are at greater risk every time you get a new partner, as everyone has a different flora.

Yeast infections are also more common in diseases that suppress the immune systems, such as HIV or diabetes. Sugar is the primary food source of yeast, so diabetics should control their blood sugar.

Changes in diet for prevention of Yeast infection:

Several studies have shown that sugar promotes yeast growth. Yeasts’ affinity for sugar has led some experts to suggest diet could be a factor in developing yeast infections for some women.

Certain people follow a anti-candida or yeast infection diet. This diet is based upon the idea that eliminating certain foods can help to eliminate or reduce the risk for overgrowth of fungus.

Some supporters of these regimens claim that the diet helps to cure or prevent yeast infections through excluding:

  • Alcoholic drinks are fermented using yeast.
  • Some dairy products include whole milk
  • White flour, and other grains that are glutenous
  • Some fruits are foods that contain simple sugars

To prevent yeast infections, it is advised to stick to foods such as protein (from chickens, beans, grass fed beef, eggs and wild caught fish), vegetables, herbal tea and nuts. The candida diet is not yet backed by scientific studies.

Routine probiotics for the prevention of Yeast Infection

Probiotics have also been a popular option for treating or preventing yeast infections. These include natural products and home remedies that are sold in health food stores.

Probiotics are based on the idea that some bacteria normally live on your skin, in your digestive tract and other parts of the body. They help with digestion and many other bodily functions. Probiotics help restore the normal balance of bacteria in the body, which helps to prevent an infection.

Probiotics can be obtained from:

  • Yogurt with Live Bacterial Cultures
  • Fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut and pickles
  • Supplements that contain lactobacillus, acidophilus, and others

Women who consume yogurt or probiotic supplements regularly can also prevent and treat yeast infections. These seemingly small changes can have a big impact on your health by preventing yeast infections.
